Now here's the thing about Merry Xmas Everybody. It's a great song. It truly is. It's catchy, funny, entirely memorable and catches the spirit of the saeson perfectly. However, I, like many, many others, would really prefer to never hear it again. It's not the fault of Noddy, Jim, Dave or Don it gets played so much.
It's the fault of lazy radio producers, DJs, compiliers and the blokes who decide on the music in supermarkets and lifts. They just can't be arsed to think about an alternative.
The same thing happens on regular radio during the other eleven months of the year. Do we really need to hear admittedly great songs like, 'Brown-Eyed Girl', 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or 'I'm Not in Love again'? Even once? I think not. Even though they are excellent, most of those listed wouldn't even get in the best 5 songs of each of the artists who made them. It's just sheer laziness and sloppiness on the part of the broadcast media.
There are others on their way. Fairytale of New York for one. And Hotel California.
So, in short, I say to the cunts who compile playlists: please stop.
